Our Focus

Why these communities?

LEWAF's direct beneficiaries are women and girls in marginalized, deprived, and remote communities across Sierra Leone. Our geographic focus is not incidental — it is a strategic choice to serve those who need support most urgently. The women and girls we serve are:

  • Poor and stifled in economic poverty
  • Vulnerable to intimate partner violence (IPV)
  • Vulnerable to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV)
  • Vulnerable to unequal social norms and persistent stereotypes
  • Facing structural inequalities and biased gender roles
  • Living with unpredictable social protection
  • Unaware of their rights and civil liberties
  • Lacking confidence to participate in decision-making in their homes, communities, and country
